The Flag of Johor State

Johor Flag

The flag of the Johor State. The White color crescent and a star of five points. The white color signify a sovereign, red color signify a warrior and the blue color signify the universe.


The Symbol of Johor State

The symbol of the Johor state. The crown at the middle of the 2 tigers signify the Ruler of the Johor state. The four stars at the corners of the white shield stand for the four original districts of the State, namely Johor Bahru, Muar, Batu Pahat and Endau. The star and crescent at the centre of the white shield signify Islam. The two tigers rampant recall the period when wild beasts roamed the State. The floral decorations below the shield represent gambier and black pepper, the two original main products of the State. The State motto reads "In the Hands of Allah."


Johor Population
Johor's population exceeds two million people, the estimated population of in the state is approximately 2.7 million people comprising an ethnic mix of Malays, Chinese, Indians, and other groups. Its capital is Johor Bahru.


Johor Languages
Bahasa Malaysia and English is the most widely spoken language in Malaysia. However, Bahasa Malaysia is the official language. Mandarin and Hindu are very popular as well.


Johor Culture
Johor is a state of multi-faceted culture with an ethnic mix of Malays, Chinese, Indians and others races. The other races in Malaysia are made up of Orang Asli, non-Malay bumiputera, Portugese and other races. This rich mix of colorful cultures and fascinating people and places are evidently reflected in the various places of worship - the magnificent mosques, temples and churches existing side by side. It is also evident in the various foods and local delicacies, the colourful and enchanting costumes, festivals, ceremonies and rituals.

  • Malay
    The Malays or Bumiputra make up the largest ethnic group in Johor state and can be found everywhere in the state. Most of the community are working in the cities while there are still some who are still living in "kampungs" or villages with agriculture as their livehood. Islam is their common faith and it binds them together in unity as foreigners are apt to comment. A Malay with islamic faith is also known as a Muslim.
  • Chinese
    The Chinese make up the second largest ethnic group in Johor state. Most of them are descended from the labourers and traders from China who came to Malaya then to seek a better livelihood and that make most of them are into business. The majority of Chinese are Taoist Buddhists and their faith is evident from the numerous temples around the state, such as Tian Hou Kong,the temple of Da Pei Kong and etc.
  • Indian
    The Indians in Johor state make up only a small ethnic group of the total population but their sense of culture is deeply rooted in tradition. A large number of them are Hindus and Tamils. In Indian community, religion is a way of life. It is an integral part of the entire Indian tradition. For the majority of Indians, religion permeates every aspect of life, from common-place daily chores to education and politics. Hinduism is the dominant faith, practiced by over 80% of the Indian population.


Johor Flora & Fauna
Johor has large tracts of mangrove swamps which is important to the sustanance of the ecosystem. Johor is also covered by large areas of tropical rain forest teeming with wildlife and various flora and fauna.


Johor Economy
Johor is one of the most developed states in the country and its economy is based on a mix of agriculture, manufacturing, commerce and tourism.
