Johor is one of the nine states with a hereditary ruler, the Sultan, who is the Head of State. Situated at the southern end of west (Peninsular) Malaysia, the third largest state in Malaysia with the area of 18,841 sq.km and population of 2.56 million including Malay, Chinese and Indian. Johor has a wide and varied economy ranging from agriculture, industry, commerce and tourism. There are also a number of historical building and traditional handicraft centres in Johor.

The capital of the state is Johor Bahru. It has eight districts including Johor Bahru, Pontian, Batu Pahat, Muar, Segamat, Kluang, Mersing and Kota Tinggi.
